TOUR DESCRIPTION:

The tour starts from your Hotel or pick-up point in Piacenza where our Tour Guide will meet you. During the tour, you will see the city centre: “Piazza de’ Cavalli” and the exterior of the “Palazzo Gotico”, built from 1280 onwards. The tour proceeds with a short visit to the Church of San Francesco, begun in 1278.

We will walk along via XX Settembre, where you can find fashion shops, typical bars and other curious shops, to the Duomo of Piacenza and the Bishop’s Residence. The Cathedral, begun in 1222, was completed in the 13th century under gothic influence and it shows three beautiful portals. On the top of the bell-tower stands a golden angel called “l’Angil dal Dom”. Inside you can admire beautiful frescoes of Guercino and the crypt with 108 different columns.

You will move to Piazza Cittadella and see Palazzo Farnese, which was built on an area formerly occupied by a medieval fortress. Inside the Civic Museum, the Painting Gallery (with the most famous Botticelli’s Tondo “Madonna adoring Child with Little St Jhon”), Middle Age and Renaissance sections and the Armoury.
